Port Orange, FL – 4 East Volusia cities are under a boil water notice effective immediately after an excavator cracked open an 18-inch water main line in Port Orange.Port Orange city officials say it happened at 1:20pm Monday at the corner of Nova Road and Herbert Street, right in the spot where a new auto parts store is being built.City spokesman Kent Donahue tells WNDB water pressure dropped quickly soon after the excavator hit the pipe as it was digging into the ground.“Residents are strongly encouraged to bring cooking or drinking water to a rolling boil for 1 minute before use,” Donahue stated. “Bottled water may be used as an alternative.”The boil water notice affects the entire city of Port Orange as well as all of Wilbur-by-the-sea and Ponce Inlet since all of their water is run through Port Orange. All of Daytona Beach Shores south of Thames Avenue is also under the notice. There is no timetable at this time as to when the boil water notice could be lifted, though Donahue says they have stabilized the water pressure and are in the process of getting it fixed.Authorities will test the water to make sure it is safe to drink before cancelling the boil water notice.Copyright 2014 Southern Stone Communications.
